About the Role

Reporting to the Compliance Department, the Export Controls Analyst will provide support to business units and the Global Export Controls team. This role is crucial in documenting, executing, and monitoring the company's export compliance program, ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements for goods and technologies.

A Snapshot of Your Day

  • Provide expert guidance on export controls to internal operations and support personnel.
  • Review shipments and classify hardware within the ERP system, ensuring compliance with both internal processes and regulatory standards.
  • Evaluate technology transfers for licensing requirements and ensure adherence to relevant regulations.
  • Review access requests to Canadian systems and technologies, verifying compliance with export control policies.
  • Conduct thorough classification of technologies and assign appropriate licenses within various IT systems.
  • Maintain customer and supplier databases, regularly screening them against sanctions lists for potential risks.
  • Assist in determining export permit requirements and support the preparation of comprehensive export permit submissions.
  • Contribute to the review of IT systems to ensure compliance with Canadian legal requirements related to export controls.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all permitted exports, ensuring accurate documentation for audits and reporting purposes.
  • Actively participate in quarterly export audits and reporting activities, providing valuable insights and supporting the audit process.
  • Conduct comprehensive export compliance audits within IT systems, identifying potential vulnerabilities and recommending corrective actions.
  • Assist in delivering training programs to enhance employee understanding of export controls policies and procedures.
  • Continuously strive to improve export processes, procedures, and work instructions, promoting efficiency and effectiveness within the team.

What You Bring

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Law, or Business, or a College diploma in Legal Technique.
  • Proven experience in a high-tech corporate environment with a strong understanding of export control regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent command of both English and French, both written and spoken.
  • Proficiency with IT systems, including the Microsoft suite of applications.
  • Experience in a legal and/or regulatory environment, demonstrating a keen understanding of compliance requirements.
  • Eligibility to be nominated as a Designated Official under the Controlled Goods Program.

Your Expertise Should Include:

  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian Export Controls, the Controlled Goods Program (CGP), and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
  • Experience conducting audits and self-assessments to ensure compliance with export control regulations.
  • Proven ability to draft and process export permit applications accurately and efficiently.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, enabling you to prioritize and manage multiple files simultaneously.
  • A meticulous approach to work, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, fostering effective collaboration within the team.
  • Strong sense of discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
