Trainee Metal Fabrication Specialist

ABOUT THIS JOB OPPORTUNITY
Black & McDonald is actively seeking a dedicated Trainee Metal Fabrication Specialist who will be responsible for planning, laying out, repairing, and installing metal products and components. This role will allow you to apply your technical and mathematical abilities while operating various tools and machinery, as well as taking precise measurements in accordance with technical drawings. The position will report directly to the Supervisor and is focused on fostering a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring that all necessary training is provided to maintain the health and safety of our workforce while supporting career advancement.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Interpret and utilize technical drawings to determine the fabrication, assembly, and installation processes for metal products.
- Measure, mark dimensions, and layout materials for installation using tools such as scribes, rulers, calculators, and squares.
- Secure joints and seams in metal using solder, welding, caulking, bolts, and metal clips, ensuring that all work is performed meticulously for lasting bonds.
- Install assemblies, including piping, HVAC ducts, flashings, rain gutters, and furnace casings within supportive frameworks.
- Maximize efficiency during the fabrication and installation of HVAC systems.
- Employ hand and power tools to trim, buff, smooth, file, and grind metal surfaces and joints of assembled parts to ensure safety and a polished appearance.
- Select the appropriate type and gauge of metal to be utilized in projects based on specifications.
- Prioritize safety in all job activities, including the use of tools and the installation and fabrication of metal components.

Educational Requirements:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
Successful completion of an apprenticeship or a three-year in-company training program is mandatory.
Certification is preferred.
Work Experience & Skill Requirements:
Proven ability to execute metal fabrication projects with precision and accuracy.
Proficient in the safe operation of machinery and tools relevant to metal work.
Ability to follow instructions accurately.
Capability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics for product assignments.
Maintain a professional demeanor with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and mobile applications.
