Metal Craftsman

Black & McDonald Limited is currently seeking an experienced Metal Fabrication Specialist to build high-quality metal components for our clients. As a Metal Fabrication Specialist, you will be responsible for reading and interpreting technical specifications, fabricating metal components or structures, and performing quality checks on finished products.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, a great attitude, and a genuine passion for the trade. Metal Fabrication Specialists are required to be skilled in all manner of duct construction methods; comfortable with the use of common industry-specific hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic tools; and adept at reading and interpreting technical literature.

Key Responsibilities:

• Reading and interpreting technical specifications.
• Constructing base templates if necessary.
• Measuring and marking out cutting and bending lines.
• Setting up metalwork machinery, including rollers, drill presses, flame cutters, brakes, and shears.
• Determining the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
• Setting up components for welding according to specifications.
• Operating angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
• Aligning components using calipers, rulers, etc., and clamping pieces.
• Welding components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions.
• Performing quality checks on completed products.
• Conforming with company safety regulations.
• Completing job reports.

Education Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Registered apprentice or Red seal journey person ticket.

Work Experience & Skill Requirements:

• Relevant Industry Experience
• AWS certification and advanced welding experience.
• Proficiency with metal fabrication tools, including shears, rollers, flame cutters, and drill presses.
• Clean Class 5 SK Driver's License and abstract.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to always maintain a professional demeanor with fellow employees, customers, and stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and mobile device applications.
