About This Career Opportunity

Black & McDonald is seeking an experienced Metal Fabrication Specialist to build high-quality metal components for our clients. As a Metal Fabrication Specialist, you will be responsible for reading and interpreting engineering blueprints, fabricating metal components or structures, and performing quality checks on finished products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering blueprints to determine project requirements.
  • Construct base templates as needed to ensure accurate fabrication.
  • Measure and mark out cutting and bending lines to ensure precise metalwork.
  • Set up metalwork machinery, including rollers, drill presses, flame cutters, brakes, and shears, to facilitate efficient fabrication.
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on project specifications.
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications, including cutting material with powered saws to match measurements.
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare parts for welding.
  • Align components using calipers, rulers, etc., and clamp pieces in place.
  • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
  • Perform quality checks on completed products to ensure they meet project requirements.
  • Conform to state and company safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Complete job reports to document project progress and outcomes.

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Registered apprentice or Red seal journey person ticket.

Work Experience & Skill Requirements

  • Relevant industry experience.
  • AWS certification and advanced welding experience.
  • Proficiency with metal fabrication tools, including shears, rollers, flame cutters, and drill presses.
  • Clean Class 5 SK Driver's License and abstract.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and mobile device applications.
