ABOUT THIS POSITION
Black & McDonald Limited is in search of a proficient Sheet Metal Technician to manufacture top-notch metal components for our clientele. In this role, you will be tasked with interpreting engineering drawings, fabricating metal parts or structures, and conducting quality assessments on the final products. Additionally, you may need to configure fabrication machinery and create custom templates as required.
The ideal candidate will exhibit a robust work ethic, eagerness to learn, a positive attitude, and a true passion for the craft. Sheet Metal Technicians should possess expertise in various duct construction techniques; be comfortable utilizing standard industry-specific hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic instruments; and be skilled in reading and understanding technical documentation. Daily responsibilities may occasionally involve extended hours and the handling of heavy materials.

Key Responsibilities Include:
- Interpreting engineering drawings accurately.
- Creating base templates as needed.
- Measuring and marking cutting and bending lines.
- Setting up metalworking machinery, including rollers, drill presses, flame cutters, brakes, and shears.
- Selecting the appropriate welding equipment or technique based on project specifications.
- Preparing components for welding according to established guidelines (e.g., cutting materials with powered saws to meet measurements).
- Utilizing angle grinders to prepare parts for welding.
- Aligning components using calipers, rulers, etc., and securing pieces.
- Welding components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various orientations (vertical, horizontal, or overhead).
- Conducting quality inspections on completed products.
- Adhering to safety regulations set by the state and the company.
- Completing job documentation.

Educational Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Registered apprentice or Red Seal journeyperson certification.
Experience and Skills Required
- Relevant industry experience.
- AWS certification and advanced welding proficiency.
- Expertise with metal fabrication tools, including shears, rollers, flame cutters, and drill presses.
- Valid Class 5 SK Driver's License and clean driving record.
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Capability to follow both written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Professional demeanor with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Outlook and mobile applications.
