Triovest Inc., a prominent privately-held Canadian commercial real estate firm, is seeking a Manager of Accounting. This pivotal role involves overseeing a property accounting team responsible for comprehensive accounting functions within a commercial portfolio. Key responsibilities include the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements, annual operating cost reconciliations, tax recovery processes, and budget management.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, guide, and mentor a high-performing team, focusing on recruitment, training, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Ensure the timely and precise execution of annual tasks such as property budgets, operating cost adjustments, tax assessments, and audits.
  • Engage in the strategic planning of annual and monthly activities, including forecasts, budgets, audits, and reporting schedules.
  • Oversee team operations to guarantee compliance with deadlines, accounting standards, and internal policies.
  • Manage the completion of property accounting tasks, including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end activities.
  • Identify and implement improvements to enhance the quality and efficiency of team outputs.
  • Collaborate with property management and asset management teams to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Work alongside internal and external auditors during reviews and audits, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Foster a positive team culture that promotes collaboration and support.
  • Assist with the onboarding and offboarding of properties, including the preparation of financial statements and reconciliations.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in property accounting, providing guidance to team members.
  • Contribute to process enhancement initiatives and participate in special projects aimed at advancing service excellence.
  • Review and validate financial documentation to ensure effective property accounting practices.
  • Deliver exceptional service to clients, tenants, and team members.

QUALIFICATIONS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Possession of a professional accounting designation (CPA) is advantageous, complemented by a relevant post-secondary degree.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting within the commercial real estate sector, ideally from an asset management or third-party management background.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and oversee junior accounting personnel, ensuring accuracy in deliverables.
  • Skilled in conducting thorough reviews of junior staff's work, providing constructive feedback, and implementing necessary corrections.
  • Expertise in CAM and tax recovery calculations for various property types.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a commitment to high-quality outcomes and meeting deadlines.
  • Aptitude for identifying and resolving issues with effective decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with commercial property accounting software, such as Yardi.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and integrity to build trust with staff and stakeholders.
  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate complex accounting concepts clearly to junior staff, fostering a collaborative team atmosphere.
