Job Summary

The Clinical Extern - Physiotherapy Learner is an integral member of the healthcare team, as an unregulated care provider. As part of the interprofessional healthcare team, the Clinical Extern will support high quality care for patients and families, while demonstrating a commitment to excellence in supporting the patient and family experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver care to patients, including measuring vital signs, assisting with personal care and activities of daily living, promoting patient safety through falls risk assessments and skin assessments, and helping with repositioning, transfers and ambulation.
  • Work under the direct/indirect supervision of an Extern Coordinator.
  • Collaborate with the interprofessional healthcare team to provide high quality care.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a recognized Physiotherapy program.
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellent academic standing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Infection prevention and control practices.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with previous clinical placement experience at Hamilton Health Sciences.

Working Conditions

The Clinical Extern will work in a variety of healthcare settings, including medical/surgical, pediatrics, women's health, rehabilitation, periop, critical care, and ALC. The successful candidate will be required to work a part-time and temporary basis until March 31, 2025.
