Position Overview

The Regulatory Affairs Manager is tasked with formulating and implementing regulatory strategies to ensure adherence to relevant Canadian federal and provincial legislation, regulations, and standards for all Farm Boy products. This role is pivotal in shaping our regulatory policy decisions and reinforcing our dedication to quality and compliance. The execution of responsibilities must reflect a commitment to quality service for all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead regulatory initiatives with expertise in Canadian food labeling and oversee the internal nutritional database. Stay informed on regulatory policy updates from Health Canada and the CFIA, and communicate their implications internally to facilitate compliance and ongoing enhancement. Provide regulatory insights throughout the commercialization process by collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure all requirements are fulfilled. Oversee the regulatory approval process for products, including specifications, labels, promotional materials, and other pertinent documentation to guarantee compliance. Supervise a team of Regulatory Specialists on project assignments, offering guidance and support for timely project completion. Develop and document internal policies and procedures related to food regulation. Manage the document control process for production and private label specifications, ensuring updates are communicated throughout the supply chain. Engage with regulatory authorities, respond to inquiries, and participate in regulatory inspections and audits. Collaborate with external organizations to ensure compliance with various criteria, including Kosher, Halal, Non-GMO, Organic, and other relevant programs. Monitor and report on regulatory compliance metrics to the Director. May undertake additional related duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Typically requires a post-secondary degree in Food Regulatory Affairs, Food Science, Nutrition, or Food Engineering, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in Canadian food regulation, demonstrating increased responsibility and experience with complex products, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proven ability to develop and implement regulatory strategies in response to policy changes. Strong understanding of Canadian federal and provincial food regulations, guidelines, and principles concerning ingredients, allergens, nutritional labeling, and claims, including requirements for organic, non-GMO, Kosher, and Halal. Comprehensive knowledge of the product development process and the capacity to apply regulatory requirements at each stage. Experience in liaising with regulatory authorities and managing inspections and audits. Proficient in utilizing regulatory/nutritional databases, food formulation software, MS Office, and Adobe. Previous experience and certifications in Regulatory Affairs, HACCP, GFSI, and Quality Assurance are considered assets. Strong project management capabilities with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects concurrently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying complex regulatory concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. Exceptional attention to detail and proficiency in reviewing and interpreting technical documentation, scientific data, and regulatory guidelines accurately. Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a strong customer service orientation. Excellent teamwork skills with the ability to work independently. Outstanding time management and organizational skills, characterized by a high level of detail, initiative, and adaptability. Willingness to work flexible hours and ability to travel as needed.
