Position Overview
Under the general supervision of the Manager (or designate), the incumbent is responsible for delivering therapeutic, diagnostic, technical, and educational respiratory therapy services in accordance with professional standards and the organization's mission and values.

Experience

  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Experience in managing neonatal and pediatric critical care is preferred.

Education

  • A recognized entry-to-practice academic credential in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited Canadian program or a MARRT approved equivalent for internationally educated candidates is required.

Special Training

  • Certification in NRP is mandatory; certification in PALS is preferred.

Certification/Licensure/Registration

  • Current registration with the MARRT is required.
  • Membership in the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) is preferred.
  • Certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) is required.
  • Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is preferred.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Preference will be given to candidates with competency in an Indigenous language and knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and values.
  • Familiarity with critical care ventilators, including High Frequency devices such as VN500, Avea, JET, and 3100 A & B is essential.
  • Knowledge of home ventilatory assistive devices like Trilogy ventilators and NPPV devices is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain effective relationships are essential.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to collaborate with other disciplines and demonstrate professional judgment and initiative is necessary.
  • Understanding of the physiological, social, cultural, and economic aspects of patient care is important.
  • Capability to organize and complete tasks with minimal supervision is required.
  • Willingness to adapt to new concepts, techniques, and best practices in healthcare is essential.
  • Proficiency with computers, including office productivity and email software, is necessary.
  • Strong critical thinking skills are required.

Physical Requirements

  • Good physical and mental health, along with manual dexterity and visual acuity, are required.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform manual ventilation for extended periods is necessary.
  • Capability to respond quickly to emergencies is essential.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy medical equipment is required.
  • May be required to work extended hours and various shifts, including nights and weekends.
  • Potential exposure to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, and other hazards is possible.
