The educational setting caters to school-age individuals residing at River Road Place, as well as those from the community participating in the St.Amant School program. This program is a vital component of an integrated service model, ensuring that all resources are coordinated to achieve common goals.

As part of our initiative, "Meaningful Connections," St.Amant aims to enhance our support culture by focusing on equipping individuals with the skills and opportunities necessary to foster relationships. This initiative encourages those we support to explore and build connections within the community.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade XII or equivalent.
  • One-year certificate in a relevant field (e.g., Developmental Service Worker Certificate, Early Childhood Education Diploma Program, or Educational Assistant Diploma).
  • Possession of a Class 4F driver's license; candidates with a Class 5F license may be considered under specific conditions.
  • A combination of Grade 12 education and three thousand hours of experience in a school program within the last five years may be accepted in lieu of a certificate, provided the candidate is willing to pursue further education.
  • Experience working with individuals with severe developmental disabilities is advantageous.
  • Prior experience in an interdisciplinary educational environment is beneficial.
  • Ability to work effectively within a collaborative team framework.
  • Familiarity with the history of education and support services for individuals with disabilities, as well as current trends and practices, is an asset.

  • Flexibility to adapt to modified educational structures when beneficial for students.
  • Proficiency in special education software is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher in identifying the comprehensive needs of a classroom of residents in collaboration with other interdisciplinary team members.
  • Encourage individuals to form new relationships and engage in community activities, potentially partnering with a supported individual to facilitate these connections.
  • Follow the teacher's guidance to deliver the educational aspects of the overall care, education, and training program, including conducting directed learning activities and providing essential physical care to students as required.
  • Participate in the Individualized Program or Educational Planning (IPP/IEP) process to ensure that each student's needs and preferences are addressed by the interdisciplinary team at least once a year, with documented educational plans and outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with team members to ensure the seamless coordination and integration of services.
  • Communicate with students' family members or advocates as necessary.
  • Support team members in functioning effectively and achieving consensus in decision-making.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to volunteers, assisting in the planning and implementation of their orientation.
  • Engage in and promote a culture of continuous quality improvement within the School Program, emphasizing client focus and staff empowerment.
  • Anticipate the evolving needs of students, adjusting services accordingly, and contribute to the ongoing development of the School in line with the Centre's leadership and vision.

The information provided above outlines the general nature of this position and is not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities. Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary, provided they align with the qualifications and parameters of this role.
