Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Medical Secretary to join our team at BC Cancer. As a Medical Secretary, you will provide administrative support to our clinical team, ensuring the smooth operation of our oncology clinic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional customer service to patients, families, and staff, responding to inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Coordinate appointments, tests, and procedures, ensuring accurate and efficient communication with patients, clinicians, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Manage and maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Prepare and distribute meeting materials, agendas, and minutes, as well as coordinate travel arrangements and accommodations for clinicians and staff.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports, presentations, and other documents, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure seamless communication and coordination of patient care.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, providing feedback and suggestions for process improvements.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 graduation from a recognized secretarial program, including a recognized course in medical transcription, and three years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Ability to keyboard at 50 wpm and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively, demonstrating empathy and understanding in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
  • Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to operate related equipment, including computers, software, and medical devices.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, In Plain Sight Report, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and other related reports.
