Mental Health and Addictions Coordinator

Meadow Lake Tribal Council is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to fill the role of Mental Health and Addictions Coordinator. This position will play a crucial role in promoting the First Nations Mental Health Continuum Framework and the Continuum of Care of Mental Health and Addictions within our community.
Key Responsibilities- Provide support and guidance to community-based Mental Health and Addictions Workers to enhance the Continuum of Care of Mental Health and Addictions.
- Work closely with the MLTC Community Wellness program to provide interconnected services and promote cultural relevance in our community responses to Mental Health and Addictions issues.
- Develop and implement community-based and culturally relevant education, prevention, intervention, and aftercare programming using a cultural approach and models that support healing and wellness for individuals, families, and communities.
- Provide support for best practices of quality, relative-focused, recovery-based, and culturally appropriate assessments, treatment, case management, crisis intervention, education, and referral services for relatives and their families.
- Support the planning and organization of community events, such as National Addictions Week and Gambling Week, to promote awareness and education on Mental Health and Addictions issues.
- Collaborate with community-based workers to provide support and guidance on the use of EMR and Virtual Care.
- Act as a referral agent for applications and EMR assessments for Individual, Family, and Specialized Treatment Centre as needed.
- Mental Health and Addictions Diploma or a related post-secondary Diploma or Degree designation in a related field in Mental Health and Addictions.
- Designation with the Indigenous Certification Board of Canada, Canadian Addiction Counsellors Certification Federation, or the Canadian Council of Professional Certification, or commitment to complete within 6 months.
- Specialized training or work experience in the First Nations Mental Health Framework and Continuum of Care of Harm Reduction, Detox, Treatment, Specialized Treatment, Aftercare, and Second Stage Housing, and five years of relevant experience in a First Nation community or Indigenous organization.
- Working knowledge of principles of harm reduction and trauma-informed practices.
- Ability to build positive relationships with relatives, internal and external resources, team members, and administration.
- Excellent communication skills and motivational skills to effectively maintain solution-focused dialogue.
- Ability to promote positive change and independence.
- Ability to work independently and show initiative and creativity.
- Ability to work on highly confidential and sensitive matters with tact and discretion.
- Professional confidence and communication skills to effectively lead a team in engaging with community members.
- Must be addiction-free, sober, and intent on living a healthy balanced lifestyle and ability to be a positive role model.
- Able to work cooperatively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Must be willing and able to travel extensively.
- Ability to speak Cree and/or Dene will be considered an asset.
