Position Overview:

The Legal Services Unit (LSU), part of Pembina's External Affairs Division, is seeking a Manager, Associate General Counsel due to internal advancements. The selected LSU manager will oversee a segment of the LSU team, which collectively offers a range of legal services, encompassing commercial, corporate, regulatory, litigation, and securities legal support across the organization.

The Manager, Associate General Counsel will bear overall responsibility for guiding the legal services provided to various departments, including Human Resources, Supply Chain, Land, Environment & Regulatory, Community and Indigenous Affairs, Government Relations, Communications, and Enterprise Risk, in addition to managing litigation matters. This role necessitates serving as a trusted advisor and resource for the Vice President, General Counsel, and Pembina's Executive team. Responsibilities will include directing, supporting, and advising experienced legal professionals while delivering practical, actionable legal counsel to Pembina's Business and Service Units.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver timely and strategic leadership and counsel on all relevant matters, focusing on permitting, compliance, emergency response, and complex litigation issues;
  • Oversee Pembina's whistleblower program and related investigations;
  • Drive initiatives for knowledge management and legal process enhancements while supporting corporate productivity goals;
  • Effectively lead both internal and external legal professionals, providing guidance, training, and support to managers and supervisors;
  • Mentor, coach, and manage performance while facilitating career development for employees;
  • Conduct onboarding, education, and training for direct reports, including goal setting and tracking;
  • Address inquiries and issues promptly and professionally;
  • Establish and maintain strong, positive working relationships across all organizational levels;
  • Research and identify technical solutions that align with business needs;
  • Promote Pembina's safety culture of 'Zero by Choice' and adhere to the 'Life Saving Rules';
  • Contribute to an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.
Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of legal practice experience, a Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree, and active membership with the Law Society of Alberta;
  • Extensive experience in AER, CER, and/or FERC regulatory and litigation management;
  • Proven experience in leading whistleblower programs and investigations;
  • Familiarity with privacy law requirements;
  • Preferred candidates will have experience managing an in-house legal team;
  • Ability to comprehend and fulfill business objectives and priorities;
  • Capacity to communicate legal advice clearly, concisely, and practically;
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to cultivate effective relationships at all organizational levels;
  • A collaborative team player with sound judgment;
  • A self-motivated individual adept at managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment;
  • High degree of professionalism, handling sensitive information with discretion;
  • Strong time management and multitasking capabilities;
  • Demonstrated leadership, facilitation, and presentation skills;
  • Exhibits strong critical thinking skills alongside excellent analytical and logical problem-solving abilities.
