About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Human Resources Business Partner to join our team at CB Canada. As a key member of our HR department, you will play a critical role in supporting the overall performance management, recruitment, training, attendance management, Health & Safety, disability management, and contribution of valuable strategic advice to managers in assigned client groups.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Direction: Provide leadership, direction, and mentoring to the Human Resources team at CB Canada; develop performance goals and hold performance partnership discussions with direct reports.
  • HR Leadership and Advice: Provide HR leadership and advice to managers; provide guidance on conflict resolution, performance management, career development, and succession planning.
  • Talent Acquisition and Development: Identify internal and external employment issues and trends; recommend improvements, efficiencies, and training opportunities; assist with training implementation and delivery.
  • Program Management: Oversee programs such as recruitment, orientation, training, attendance management, health, safety, and wellness, rewards, and recognition at the property.
  • Recruitment and Talent Sourcing: Develop recruitment tools and research the marketplace to attain talent.
  • Training and Development: Deliver and support ongoing training and development to cultivate culture and create memorable experiences.
  • HR Strategic Planning: Develop and implement HR strategic plans as directed; ensure site operations align with partnership objectives.
  • Culture and Performance: Partner with management to improve culture of attendance and performance while focusing on guest service.
  • Workplace Safety: Foster a safe workplace focusing on taking proactive steps to minimize accidents and increase wellness.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise and communicate effectively with all appropriate operational departments.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and cultivate strong working relationships with all stakeholders: guests, partners, team members, unions, vendors, and regulators.
  • Job Description Management: Review and update job descriptions.
  • Labour Relations: Assist and advise Managers with respect to the collective agreement application and interpretation.
  • Labour Relations Support: Focus on rapport-building with the Union working towards improving communication and reducing grievances.
  • Labour Relations Reporting: Research and prepare confidential Labour Relations reports and surveys relating to negotiations, grievances, and arbitrations and provide support, resources, and participate on the Casino's bargaining and Labour-management committees.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with licensing laws, health, and safety, and other statutory regulations.
Requirements
  • Education: Post-Secondary education in Human Resources Management (diploma/degree in HR) or an equivalency of work experience of at least five years in Human Resources in roles of increasing responsibility.
  • Designation: CHRL/CHRP designation is an asset.
  • Experience: Previous HR experience in a unionized environment is required.
  • Skills: Ability to exceed internal and external 'customer' expectations through leading by example and by providing timely, effective, and service-oriented advice and service to operation managers.
  • Customer Service: A track-record of effective human resources customer service to several departments with competing needs, and providing sound advice on sensitive matters.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to maintain confidentiality; mediation and conflict management/resolution experience is required.
  • Communication: Superior ability to communicate effectively; active listening, writing, speaking, and presenting.
  • Problem-Solving: Proven ability to analyze problems, identify key information and issues, interpret data, and determine implications, provide recommendations, and effectively resolve issues.
  • Collaboration: Collaborative (solicits input to improve/enhance strategy and development).
  • Technology: Computer literacy in all applications of MS Office and HRIS experience required.
  • Professional Development: Active affiliation with appropriate Human Resources networks and organizations and ongoing community involvement.
  • Personal Qualities: Willingness to learn, develop, and achieve new skills for personal and professional development.
  • Criminal Record and Credit Check: The ability to successfully pass a criminal record and credit check through the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO).
  • Gaming Registration: Ability to obtain registration as a Category 1 Gaming Assistant with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
