The Lac La Ronge Indian Band is currently seeking qualified candidates for a permanent full-time role based out of the Band Office:
DIRECTOR OF SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES
Under the guidance of the Director of Education, the Director will take charge of overseeing Special Education initiatives, program implementation, and curriculum development. This position will also involve conducting needs assessments, setting objectives, and devising strategies for student enhancement, along with providing ongoing feedback to educational staff.
Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with administrative personnel to ensure equitable distribution of learning resources and curriculum across schools.
• Monitor and support educators in the application of Special Education policies, programming, and assessment methods.
• Advocate for and ensure the availability of early learning programs in primary educational institutions.
• Guarantee that each school has suitable programming in place to foster student achievement.
• Lead and coordinate the processes for the designation and funding of students with special needs.
• Collect testing and medical information, complete necessary designation documentation, and pursue funding opportunities.
• Organize activities related to the referral, placement, and programming for students with special needs within the educational framework.
• Facilitate effective communication with school leaders regarding placements and programming for students with special needs.
• Assist Resource Teachers and Tutors in developing plans and programs for students with special needs, including the preparation of Individualized Education Plans (I.E.P.s).
• Coordinate and arrange professional development needs as identified by staff working with special needs students.
• In partnership with school leaders, oversee special programs, particularly those focused on behavioral support.
• Continuously assess the effectiveness of special programs and contribute to their ongoing enhancement.
• Stay informed about community demographics and socio-economic factors.
• Promote collaboration and communication between educational institutions and the community.
• Establish strategic performance metrics and objectives that align with the goals of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
• Ensure that Resource Teachers and Tutors have clear objectives and understand expectations.
Qualifications:
• A minimum of a Master's degree in Education, with a specialization in Special Education preferred.
• At least 5 years of teaching experience, ideally in Special Education.
• Experience in resource room settings.
• Familiarity with budgeting processes is advantageous.
• Strong background in elementary and/or secondary school administration is beneficial.
• Knowledge of school board policies, compliance regulations, and relevant legislation.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
• Comprehensive understanding of child development and educational methodologies.
• Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
• Proficiency in the Cree language is a plus.
• Strong negotiation and mediation capabilities.
• Ability to identify individual learning styles and learner characteristics.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
• Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
• A valid Class 5 driver's license is required.
