Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Counsellor to join our Hummingbird Program team. As a Counsellor, you will provide crisis counselling and support to callers on our various crisis lines, with a focus on the sexual assault crisis line. You will also provide in-person support to individuals who have experienced sexual and intimate partner violence within an interdisciplinary model at our organization.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of empowerment-based, trauma-informed principles and will be able to assess risk in areas such as posttraumatic stress, victims of violence, suicide bereavement, domestic abuse, addiction, mental health, child welfare, human trafficking, and sexual assault.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide crisis counselling, support, information, referral, and links to appropriate community services.

• Mentor new volunteer advocates in the Hummingbird program.

• Provide in-person support and advocacy at our organization and other external locations.

• Assess caller needs and risk.

• Chart appropriately according to our organization's procedures and documentation guidelines.

• Participate in training courses and in-services offered elsewhere and by our organization to maintain and improve quality of service.

• Attend staff meetings as required.

• Participate in program planning, evaluation, and quality monitoring, including completing daily statistics.

• Participate in formal self-evaluations by identifying strengths and limitations.

• Seek appropriate supervision/consultation of own actions.

• Adhere to all agency policies, protocols, and promote best practices.

Requirements:

• Satisfactory Criminal Record, Child Abuse, and Adult Abuse Registry checks.

• Completion of ASIST training.

• Completion of Crisis Worker Certification Exam within one year of hire.

• Ability to work days, evenings, and weekends.

Salary Range: $33.747 per hour - $44.041 per hour
