Job Title: Genetics Counsellor

Diagnostic Services, Shared Health is seeking a skilled Genetics Counsellor to join our laboratory team.

Job Summary

The Genetics Counsellor will provide information and technical support to clients, laboratory staff, and other healthcare providers. This role involves day-to-day triaging of patient specimens, organizing and facilitating out-of-province testing requests, and tracking of specimens, results, and reports.

Responsibilities
  • Provide genetic counselling and support to clients and healthcare providers.
  • Triage patient specimens and coordinate testing requests.
  • Track specimens, results, and reports to ensure accurate and timely communication.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and other healthcare providers to ensure seamless communication and care.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest genetic testing and counselling techniques.
Requirements
  • Master of Science degree in Genetics or Master of Science/Master of Arts in Genetic Counselling from a recognized genetic counselling program.
  • Board eligible or board certified by the Canadian Association of Genetic Counsellors (CAGC) and/or the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
  • Specialized knowledge of clinical genetics and laboratory molecular genetics, cytogenetics, and genomics.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team.
Working Conditions

The Genetics Counsellor will work in a laboratory setting and be exposed to all hazards and dangers incumbent in working in an office and laboratory environment. The incumbent must be able to work under pressure and competing demands and deadlines, and deal effectively with difficult situations.
