Northern Health Authority is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Peer Support Worker to join our team.

In this role, you will provide invaluable support to individuals navigating mental health and substance use challenges. Your lived experience and understanding of the recovery journey will be instrumental in empowering others and fostering a sense of hope and belonging.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build trusting relationships with clients, providing empathetic listening and guidance.
  • Share your personal story and insights to inspire and motivate individuals on their recovery path.
  • Facilitate peer support groups and workshops, creating a safe and supportive environment for sharing and learning.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive and coordinated care.
  • Advocate for clients' needs and rights, connecting them with resources and services.

Qualifications:

  • Lived experience with recovery from a mental illness and/or substance use as a recipient of mental health and substance use services including peer knowledge of the designated client population in the applicable program area or department.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Peer Support Training program and two (2) years recent related experience in a peer support role or an equivalent combination of education, training, peer support and employment experience
  • May require valid BC Driver's License as required by program.

  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Knowledge of mental health and substance use issues.
  • Commitment to ethical practice and client confidentiality.
