Salary Range: $43.17 to $55.39 (with an additional $9 per hour premium for CASA Classrooms personnel)

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours daily

Role Summary

The CASA Classrooms initiative represents a new approach to delivering school-based mental health services. This program aims to meet the demand for accessible services by integrating a child's mental health needs with their educational environment through a collaborative effort between mental health professionals and educators. This initiative is executed in collaboration with the Government of Alberta, community stakeholders, and educational institutions.

The Mental Health Therapist will be responsible for:

  1. Collaborating with the CASA team and external resources to deliver high-quality, trauma-informed mental health interventions to children, adolescents, and families.
  2. Assisting caregivers of children with special needs in developing tailored parenting strategies.
  3. Formulating appropriate diagnoses utilizing the DSM-5-TR and other assessment tools.
  4. Performing case management duties, including organizing case meetings and coordinating with CASA therapists, psychiatrists, community services, and other professionals involved with the child and their family.
  5. Facilitating consultations with other therapists or external partners as necessary.
  6. Supervising and/or mentoring student placements.
  7. Enhancing staff knowledge and awareness of discipline-specific topics.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree in psychology, social work, or occupational therapy, or a bachelor's degree in social work or a related field such as psychology or social sciences, with at least three years of relevant experience in an educational or mental health context.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical experience in child and family mental health and/or youth addiction services.
  • Current registration with a recognized governing body.

Employment Conditions

  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, which will be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
  • A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), along with the physical capability to perform all necessary interventions.
