Commercial Auto Underwriting Expert

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our Commercial Auto team at CNA. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will be responsible for reviewing applications and determining the acceptability of risks in accordance with company guidelines and standards.
Key Responsibilities- Review applications and requirements for risks requiring complex underwriting skills, determining acceptability and determining the need for additional evidence of insurability and appropriate strategy.
- Determine appropriate pricing based on financial and competitive analysis in line with compliance requirements.
- Prepare quotes and answer questions from brokers, policyholders, or other external contacts, escalating issues to management as necessary.
- Notify brokers of adverse underwriting decisions, rate changes, underwriting requirements, status, and declinations.
- Analyze quality, quantity, and profitability of risks underwritten and prepare reports for management review.
- Market products and services through the brokerage community and make field visits, developing and maintaining broker relationships.
- Provide guidance and assistance to other underwriters and functional areas, particularly when related to cross-sell opportunities.
- Stay current on provincial and federal issues and regulations, industry activity, and trends, sharing information with others.
- Utilize advanced functionality in relevant CNA systems to perform day-to-day activities.
- Work with specialists or management on risks exceeding authority level or requiring special handling.
- Advanced knowledge of underwriting and insurance industry theories and practices.
- Demonstrated high level of technical expertise and product-specific knowledge.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of CNA's internal and external business partners.
- Ability to work independently and exercise independent judgment, making critical business decisions effectively.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in auto underwriting, with professional designations such as CIP/CRM preferred.
- Typically a minimum 5 years of commercial auto specific underwriting experience.
