About the UTSC Library:
The UTSC Library stands at the forefront of academic library services and program innovation. Our extensive collection includes a wealth of scholarly resources across various formats, designed to support research and study. We provide comprehensive reference and research services, alongside a local collection that encompasses approximately 400,000 print items, journal subscriptions, audiovisual materials, and specialized research collections. Our dedicated team of librarians and technicians is committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion, ensuring a rich and engaging academic experience for all.
Your Role:
As the initial point of contact for library patrons, you will play a crucial role in addressing general inquiries and basic reference questions, while efficiently redirecting or escalating more complex issues as necessary. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting searches in catalogue records to determine material availability.
- Identifying and retrieving missing or mismatched items or information.
- Tracking the status of acquisitions and assisting with the assessment and issuance of fines.
- Supporting course reserves, media bookings, resource sharing, and library events.
- Processing library materials, including serials, and ensuring correct bibliographic linkage.
- Verifying the availability of course materials for loan and assisting in collection maintenance.
- Running prediction and claim reports and processing subscriptions.
- Overseeing the activities of casual staff while ensuring compliance with library policies.
Essential Qualifications:
- Completion of a Library Technician College Diploma (2 years) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience in an academic library setting.
- Proficiency in integrated library systems (LSPs), particularly Alma/Primo.
- Experience in providing circulation services and accessioning materials.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Demonstrated judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and Outlook.
- Knowledge of copyright, access, and privacy regulations.
- Commitment to fostering equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace.
