We are currently seeking a seasoned Director, Finance to join our team.

Position Overview:

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this senior management position is integral to both the finance department and the broader organization of Mara Renewables. The Director, Finance will collaborate closely with the CFO, overseeing all internal financial operations while the CFO manages external financial relations.

As the Director, Finance, you will be the central figure in all internal business and financial processes. This leadership role entails guiding direct reports and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support the expanding finance objectives. You will be a vital part of a cooperative team, playing a crucial role in harmonizing various operational components.

Your responsibilities will include supervising all financial reporting and managing the organization's funding requirements, supported by the accounting team that provides monthly financial data for consolidation and reporting.

The consolidated financial outcomes are essential for a wide array of stakeholders who rely on them for making significant funding, investment, and lending decisions. These financial statements are audited in accordance with Canadian Accounting Standards for Private Entities.

Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will lead the accounting and finance team at Mara and offer valuable insights on technical matters. Your duties will encompass:

  • Overseeing and evaluating the consolidation of operational results and preparing financial reports for the Board of Directors and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborating with senior auditors to proactively address technical GAAP issues and establish accounting policies.
  • Managing relationships with external auditors.
  • Developing a budgeting and forecasting framework, reviewing and refining budgets and forecasts for stakeholder assessment.
  • Engaging with financial professionals to resolve issues in tax, risk management, and financing.
  • Working with business unit controllers to create a framework for internal controls over financial reporting and mitigate risks associated with occupational fraud.
  • Advising portfolio companies on accounting matters and updates to corporate accounting policies.
  • Managing vendor relationships with our ERP provider.
  • Collaborating across functions to ensure the needs of operations, sales, R&D, and capital projects are met, addressing financial issues proactively.
  • Overseeing treasury functions, including sales collections, fund disbursements, and maintaining positive banking relationships.
  • Working with currency advisors and brokers to minimize transaction costs and establish hedging strategies for currency exposure.
  • Coordinating with group controllers for investment or cash transfers as necessary.
  • Managing financial reporting and relationships with shareholders.
  • Coordinating annual insurance renewals by completing applications and liaising with brokers.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in senior financial reporting roles is essential.
  • A solid educational background in finance, with a Canadian CPA designation required.
  • Additional qualifications such as an MBA or other relevant certifications would be advantageous.
  • Experience with ERP systems, particularly Xero, is considered an asset.
