Parking Regulation Officer

Key Responsibilities

The Parking Regulation Officer is tasked with upholding the various parking regulations established by the City of Thorold.

The Officer's duties encompass:

  1. Monitoring both on-street and off-street parking facilities
  2. Educating the public on parking laws
  3. Issuing citations for violations
  4. Coordinating the towing of vehicles
  5. Providing testimony in court and during appeals
Essential Duties
  1. Enforce municipal parking laws, address complaints and inquiries, and issue warnings and citations for infractions
  2. Maintain records of all tickets and payments in the parking management system, generate reports, and dispatch notices as necessary
  3. Oversee the removal of vehicles by the City's towing contractors in compliance with traffic regulations and contractual obligations
  4. Submit violations to the Ministry of Transportation and Provincial Offences Office
  5. Offer guidance to the public regarding parking laws and facilities
  6. Appear as a witness in appeals and court cases related to disputed parking violations
  7. Uphold the highest standards of confidentiality and integrity
  8. Utilize initiative to enhance work efficiency on a daily basis
  9. Promote health and safety compliance in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  10. Engage in regular team meetings and foster team cohesion
  11. Collaborate closely with departmental personnel
  12. Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
  1. Completion of a two-year college program in a relevant field (e.g., Law & Security, Police Foundations)
  2. At least one year of relevant professional experience
  3. Certification from the Municipal Law Enforcement Officers Association is an asset
  4. Possession of a valid Class 'G' driver's license
Work Environment

This position requires working under the general supervision of the By-Law Enforcement Supervisor in an outdoor setting across various weather conditions, with occasional office tasks that demand mental focus and visual attention amidst frequent interruptions. Close collaboration with departmental staff is essential.
