Job Summary

Hamilton Health Sciences is seeking a highly skilled Occupational Therapist to join our team in the Pediatric Surgical Care/Gastrointestinal Unit at McMaster Children's Hospital. As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing comprehensive care to children and their families, maximizing their occupational performance and recovery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and evaluate pediatric patients with complex medical and surgical conditions, developing individualized treatment plans to promote optimal occupational performance.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to coordinate care and facilitate community services and supports.
  • Provide evidence-based occupational therapy services, including assessment, evaluation, and treatment, to pediatric surgical patients.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless care transitions and optimal patient outcomes.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices and research in pediatric occupational therapy, applying this knowledge to inform clinical decision-making and improve patient care.
Requirements
  • Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario.
  • Graduate of an approved School of Occupational Therapy.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' recent, relevant clinical experience in a tertiary pediatric setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with assessment, evaluation, and treatment with pediatric surgical patients.
  • Experience with pediatric feeding and swallowing assessment and treatment preferred.
  • Well-developed knowledge of the role of occupational therapy services and other disciplines along the continuum of care.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Self-directed and flexible practitioner with well-developed critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage a caseload of patients to ensure optimal patient care and access to service.
