DevOps Engineer | Cloud Infrastructure

About the Role
As a DevOps Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining our robust cloud infrastructure. You'll be responsible for ensuring the seamless operation of our production and development environments, driving automation initiatives, and collaborating closely with engineering teams to optimize system performance and scalability.
Responsibilities- Manage and oversee the configuration of our cloud resources, primarily within AWS, with potential expansion to other platforms.
- Develop expertise in our system architecture and guide the engineering team towards evolving it to meet future product requirements, scale, and resilience needs.
- Implement production system changes to ensure compliance with company standards such as High Availability and Disaster Recovery.
- Design, deploy, and maintain large-scale, fault-tolerant systems using technologies like AWS Cloud Development Kit and Terraform.
- Build self-service tooling that empowers application developers to interact effectively with production environments.
- Participate in an on-call rotation, responding to production incidents by triaging, resolving issues, and conducting retrospectives to continuously improve our systems and processes.
- Identify opportunities to automate tasks and processes, enhancing operational efficiency and scalability for the team.
- Collaborate closely with distributed engineering teams within Workday Everywhere and interact with other Workday teams that provide essential tooling for our system.
- Handle manual production environment changes (e.g., in AWS) when automation is not feasible due to compliance requirements.
Basic Qualifications
- 5+ years of overall software engineering experience.
- 2+ years of DevOps or SRE experience.
- 2+ years of infrastructure and automation experience, proficient in technologies like AWS Cloud Development Kit and Terraform.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience utilizing AWS technologies.
- Experience with development and deployment in a multi-region cloud environment, particularly AWS and GCP.
- Familiarity with security, performance, high availability, and disaster recovery methodologies.
- Proven ability to identify performance bottlenecks, detect anomalous system behavior, and resolve root causes of service issues.
- Experience working with container deployment and orchestration technologies, understanding fundamentals such as service discovery, deployments, monitoring, scheduling, and load balancing.
- Experience in distributed cloud service development, infrastructure, traffic management, and architecture.
- Knowledge of networking concepts like VPC, DNS, ALB/NLB, Subnets, etc.
