Role Responsibilities

  • Oversee infrastructure resources, primarily within AWS, and manage system configurations.
  • Administer both production and development environments.
  • Deepen your understanding of the team's system architecture and guide engineering efforts to evolve it in line with future product needs.
  • Implement system modifications to align with company standards, including High Availability and Disaster Recovery protocols.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain robust, fault-tolerant systems utilizing technologies such as AWS Cloud Development Kit and Terraform.
  • Create self-service tools that empower application developers to engage with production environments effectively.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation, addressing production incidents through triage, resolution, and retrospectives to enhance system reliability.
  • Enhance operational efficiency through automation wherever feasible.
  • Collaborate closely with distributed engineering teams and other Workday divisions to optimize tooling for our systems.
  • Manage manual changes in production environments that cannot be automated due to compliance requirements.

Candidate Profile

Essential Qualifications

  • 5+ years of comprehensive software engineering experience.
  • 2+ years in a DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering role.
  • 2+ years of experience in infrastructure management and automation, particularly with AWS Cloud Development Kit and Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS technologies for over 2 years.
  • Experience in developing and deploying applications in multi-region cloud environments, including AWS and GCP.
  • Knowledge of security, performance, high availability, and disaster recovery best practices.
  • Ability to identify performance issues and resolve underlying causes of service disruptions.
  • Familiarity with container deployment and orchestration technologies, including service discovery and load balancing.
  • Experience in distributed cloud service development and infrastructure management.
  • Understanding of networking concepts such as VPC, DNS, and Subnets.

  • Experience in a collaborative team environment with a focus on pair programming.
  • A strong desire to automate repetitive tasks and processes.
  • Self-motivated individual passionate about system enhancements and improving developer experiences.
  • Commitment to writing high-quality, well-tested code.
  • Proficiency in producing production-quality code in TypeScript.
  • A proven history of delivering and maintaining production-quality applications.
  • Experience in monitoring and maintaining large-scale production systems.
