Key Responsibilities:

As the Lead Cinematic Animator, you will take charge of guiding and supervising a talented team of animators. Your role will involve providing mentorship, offering constructive feedback, and cultivating a collaborative atmosphere that encourages the production of high-quality cinematic animations. You will manage the development of both in-house and outsourced cinematic content, ensuring it aligns with the artistic vision and narrative objectives of the project. Collaboration with directors, producers, and other stakeholders will be essential to maintain a unified animation style.

In addition to overseeing the animation process, you will be responsible for task assignment and project scoping, which requires effective resource planning and allocation. You will work closely with project managers to identify and mitigate potential bottlenecks, ensuring that project milestones are consistently achieved. Your role will also include reviewing animation work to ensure adherence to best practices and workflows.

Staying abreast of the latest tools, technologies, and trends in animation will be crucial, as you will provide technical solutions and support to your team as needed.

Expectations:

  • Advocate for production timelines, managing both your own and your team's efforts to meet deadlines.
  • Ensure the cinematic animations produced align with the project's artistic vision and narrative goals.
  • Collaborate closely with directors, producers, and stakeholders to develop and maintain a cohesive animation style.
  • Act as a people manager for a diverse team of animators.
  • Oversee the outsourcing of content and deliverables.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills and actively seek opportunities to mentor team members.
  • Utilize your problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve technical and creative challenges, ensuring the highest quality of animations.
  • Work collaboratively within a team environment and respond well to direction.
  • Collaborate with integrators to facilitate the implementation of animation content and test results within the game.
  • Engage in discussions about artistic and technical challenges with colleagues to ensure clarity and alignment across disciplines.
  • Seek and provide feedback on work to foster continuous improvement.
  • Contribute actively to the craft, promoting a culture of collaborative learning within the team.
  • Exhibit exceptional attention to detail and a creative mindset.

Qualifications:

  • Over 10 years of experience as a cinematic animator for in-game content.
  • Proven track record as a Lead Animator or in a similar capacity within the gaming or entertainment sectors.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and manage time efficiently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience working on at least one AAA game, with a focus on creating narrative content such as cinematics or scripted events.
  • Proficiency in animation software such as Maya, Motion Builder, or similar tools.
  • Expertise in performance capture refinement and keyframe animation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of character animation, timing, and storytelling.
  • A keen eye for camera language and framing is advantageous.
  • Broad knowledge of technical workflows.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and engage with the broader team for content alignment.
  • Passionate about improving workflows and tools.
