Position Overview:
The Maintenance Supervisor will oversee operations at our Kitchener, ON wire cut cookie facility, which produces an impressive 17 million cookies weekly. This cutting-edge plant features four highly automated production lines and boasts a collaborative team-oriented culture. Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead maintenance teams while ensuring adherence to safe work practices. Address unsafe conditions and safety concerns raised by team members. Conduct thorough incident investigations and develop corrective actions to mitigate risks. Participate in workplace inspections and audits to identify and address potential hazards. Promote a culture of zero tolerance regarding lockout/tagout and other critical safety procedures.
  • Facilitate orientation and training to cultivate an effective and efficient workforce. Assign and supervise formal training sessions and validate completion of training requirements.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with food safety standards. Follow our Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan and British Retail Consortium (BRC) requirements.
  • Direct and guide the maintenance team in preventive maintenance and repair of production equipment. Utilize maintenance planning and work order systems to schedule team activities. Assess contractor skill requirements and coordinate with external contractors as needed.
  • Provide leadership to ensure the team meets or exceeds performance targets.
  • Maintain updated systems for all preventive and corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with planners to assign work to technicians and ensure timely completion of all tasks.
  • Review performance results and address issues with appropriate actions.
  • Utilize information tools to identify opportunities for improving line efficiency, analyze trends, and prioritize bakery objectives. Track and eliminate causes of downtime, leading smaller-scale process improvements to achieve measurable goals.
  • Conduct detailed root cause analyses for significant deviations from performance targets.
  • Manage maintenance deliverables related to the planning, assessment, installation, and testing of new equipment, methods, and products.
  • Oversee initiatives aimed at reducing plant downtime.
  • Coordinate follow-ups on work orders and generate necessary updates in the maintenance planning system.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative employee environment through effective communication with all staff.
  • Provide timely and constructive performance feedback to team members and document as necessary.
  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and onboarding of new employees as needed.
  • Monitor and maintain attendance records, addressing any attendance-related issues.
  • Manage shift resources and ensure availability for rotating shifts, including weekends, in a 24/7 operational environment.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing plant maintenance, preferably in food production.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance storeroom inventory management.
  • Ability to act, react, and interact with respect and consideration for others.
  • Proactive in anticipating tasks and taking ownership to ensure completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Skilled in organizing and delegating work while holding others accountable for results.
  • Willingness to learn, apply new skills, and share knowledge to foster personal and organizational growth.

  • Proficient in computer skills, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Experience in structured maintenance planning and scheduling processes.
  • Familiarity with automated process and packaging technology is advantageous.
  • Licensed Millwright or Electrician preferred.
  • High school diploma required; college or university degree is a plus.
