Purpose and Scope:

York University is a leading research institution that fosters interdisciplinary collaboration. The Senior Manager, Research Communications, plays a critical role in developing and implementing strategic communications plans that align with the university's research vision and values. This position reports to the Senior Executive Officer and works closely with the University's Chief Communications and Marketing Officer to promote the university's research excellence and impact.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans that showcase the university's research strengths and achievements.
  • Collaborate with researchers, faculty, and staff to identify and promote research opportunities and successes.
  • Manage and maintain the university's research communications channels, including social media, websites, and publications.
  • Provide strategic communications advice and counsel to researchers, faculty, and staff on research-related communications.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including media, government, and industry partners.
Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in strategic communications, with a focus on research communications.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communications campaigns.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex research concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.
Working Conditions:

The Senior Manager, Research Communications, will work in an open office setting with extended periods working on a computer and telephone. May work extended hours due to events and required deadlines. Travel to other locations on and off campus may be required for events.

Compensation and Benefits:

York University offers a competitive salary and benefits package, including a Performance-Based Recognition Award. Employees will receive the grid adjustment and depending on performance, eligible permanent employees may move to the next step of the grid and may receive a lump sum Performance-Based Recognition Award.
