Respiratory Therapist

Island Health is seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team. To be successful in this role, you will require:
- Graduation from a recognized Respiratory Therapy education program;
- Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists (CSRT) certification;
- Certified Respiratory Educator (CRE) designation, including completion of courses in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma, and Education for Chronic Disease;
- Current CPR level 'C' or BLS HCP certification;
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in respiratory care, with at least 1 year in community and/or outpatient care;
- Specific training and practice in pulmonary rehabilitation, asthma education, respiratory home care, home ventilation, and sleep disorders;
- Knowledge of current technologies and treatments for acute and chronic respiratory conditions, such as pneumonia, COPD, and asthma;
- Experience in policy/procedural development and quality improvement initiatives;
- Current membership or eligibility for membership in the B.C. Society of Respiratory Therapists;
- A valid BC driver's license.
In addition to the qualifications listed above, Island Health is seeking a Respiratory Therapist with the following skills and abilities:
- Demonstrated interpersonal, organizational, and teaching skills;
- Ability to work independently and manage a varied caseload;
- Ability to initiate and lead processes;
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing, with clients, caregivers, families, physicians, hospital and Community Health Services staff, and other community agencies;
- Decision-making and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to function effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team;
- Ability to plan, organize, set priorities, and follow through;
- Proficiency in using a computer;
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
