Your Role

BDO Digital is seeking a Splunk Specialist (1 Year Contract) (Hybrid) to enhance our expanding team. The selected candidate will be responsible for:

  • Planning, executing, and delivering Splunk development projects and analytical initiatives to support investigations, mitigate risks, and address criminal activities.
  • Integrating diverse data formats into Splunk from various source systems by defining and configuring data inputs and settings to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
  • Creating queries using Splunk SPL based on business needs, working with large datasets to provide comprehensive insights that are rigorously tested and validated before deployment.
  • Designing and developing dashboards, alerts, reports, and visualizations in Splunk to fulfill business requirements while ensuring user-friendly interfaces that yield actionable insights.
  • Providing troubleshooting support by diagnosing and resolving various Splunk-related challenges.
  • Maintaining effective communication with internal technology and business partners to ensure project success.
  • Understanding the Bank's risk appetite and culture to inform daily activities and decisions.
  • Striving for efficient operations in alignment with Scotiabank's Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, ensuring adherence to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Possessing knowledge of the Bank's financial systems, data warehouses, logs, policies, and procedures, along with an understanding of money laundering techniques and related criminal activities to support the enterprise monitoring program.
  • Exhibiting strong customer focus, presentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrating excellent communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to convey information clearly to all organizational levels, making data and targets relatable.
  • Showing a passion for continuous improvement and learning while fostering a collaborative team environment.

Required Experience/Technical Skills:

  • Demonstrated experience in an analytical role, utilizing Splunk SPL query language to create dashboards, algorithms, rules, and alerts, preferably in user behavioral analytics and digital fraud analysis contexts.
  • Proven ability to work with analytical and computing tools, such as Splunk, Microsoft Power BI, SAS, Java, R, Python, Hadoop, HIVE, Spark, etc.
  • Training and/or certifications in Splunk Enterprise Version 7.x and 8.x and Data Analytics are advantageous.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Creative thinker with robust analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of collecting, organizing, analyzing, and disseminating data with precision and attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, results-oriented, and committed to adding value to the organization.
  • Knowledge of industry trends regarding fraud and experience in fraud detection and prevention is beneficial.
