Job Summary

The Agency is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director to lead the Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in capturing the region's unique character and establishing it as a premier tourism destination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership and direction to the GPRTA, aligning the organization's goals and initiatives with the needs of the region.
  • Regional Knowledge: Possess a strong understanding of the region's tourism goals and a proven ability to assess and learn community strengths.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain collaborative relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government agencies, industry partners, Indigenous and Multicultural communities, and community groups.
  • Operational Management: Oversee the day-to-day business operations of the GPRTA, ensuring efficient management of budgets, grants, and grant distribution.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Develop and implement innovative marketing and promotional strategies to raise the profile of Grande Prairie and area as a premier tourism destination.
  • Industry Advocacy: Advocate on behalf of the local tourism industry, amplifying the voice of operators and championing their interests.
  • Organizational Culture: Foster a positive, inclusive organizational culture that empowers the GPRTA team.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Post-secondary degree related to a subject such as Commerce, Business Management, Hospitality & Tourism, or Marketing, or at least 3-5 years equivalent business experience.
  • Driver's License: Valid Class 5 driver's license issued by the Province of Alberta with a clean abstract.
  • Travel and Availability: Willingness and ability to undertake extended travel within the local Grande Prairie region and surrounding areas as part of regular job duties.
  • Flexibility: Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Leadership Skills: Self-directed leader with strong interpersonal skills and ability to be an effective collaborator and innovator.
  • Managerial Experience: Proven managerial skills in recruitment, training, and development of staff by providing both positive and constructive feedback in a team environment.
  • Budget Administration: Proven experience in budget preparation and administration.
  • Volunteer Governance: Experience with volunteer Board Governance and Government relations.
  • Marketing Planning: Proven ability in developing, implementing, and leading significant marketing plans.
