Position Overview

The Project Engineer is responsible for guiding a dedicated team in the effective installation, commissioning, and initiation of process machinery within the facility.

  • Lead and motivate contractors to ensure timely, budget-compliant, and specification-adherent project completion.
  • Facilitate communication and resolve technical inquiries, while managing field modifications.
  • Collaborate with OEM engineers who may provide on-site technical assistance.
  • Operate within a construction environment under the supervision of the Global Engineering Construction Manager.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assess risks and ensure that all electrical and mechanical work is executed safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Engage in the preparation of installation bid packages, contractor assessments, and pre-construction planning.
  • Acquire a comprehensive understanding of installation sequencing, assembly specifics, budget estimates, job scope, and timelines.
  • Interpret and comprehend all manufacturer assembly drawings and instructions related to equipment installation, including scopes of work and specifications.
  • Conduct daily meetings with contractors to oversee progress.
  • Effectively coordinate communications among contractors, corporate engineers, and other stakeholders to resolve issues.
  • Organize weekly discussions with the GE process team and document meeting outcomes.
  • Ensure all installations comply with GE standards and requirements.
  • Evaluate key deliverables such as scope of supply, quality, workmanship, and functionality to confirm systems are operational.
  • Handle administrative responsibilities including scheduling, budget oversight, and weekly reporting.
  • Review and authorize progress invoices and change requests.
  • Confirm receipt of all equipment drawings, operation manuals, and spare part lists.
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with contractors, equipment suppliers, GE engineers, and plant operations.
  • Integrate commissioning activities with data management systems for production oversight.
  • Support the Process Sign-Off (PSO) for assigned equipment and manage punch lists.
  • Gather and maintain 'as-built' documentation reflecting any modifications made during construction.
  • Standard working hours will typically be five days per week during construction, with additional hours as necessary for deadlines or system start-up and testing.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • Preferred qualifications include Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and a Licensed Engineer (P.Eng) in Ontario.
Experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development through licensing, advanced degrees, or additional training.
  • Experience collaborating across divisions and with external entities.
  • Completion of cross-functional projects or at least two roles within the division or plant assignments.

Mechanical Systems (Preferred)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of equipment rigging, leveling, alignment, grouting, welding, and commissioning protocols.
  • Ability to interpret piping schematics and flow diagrams.
  • Awareness of environmental regulations and requirements.
  • Familiarity with industrial piping, pumps, valves, and instrumentation across various systems.
  • Understanding of fire protection systems and process ventilation.
  • Knowledge of dust collector systems and relevant industry standards.
Electrical Systems (Preferred)
  • Experience with medium and low-voltage drives and machine control systems.
  • Familiarity with pneumatic and hydraulic control systems.
  • Knowledge of vision systems for material tracking.
  • Ability to read and interpret various electrical diagrams and control logic.
  • Experience in verifying electrical installations for compliance with industry standards.
  • Capability to develop testing protocols and lead equipment startup and troubleshooting.
