Job Title: Community Worker

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Community Worker to join our team at the Cree Board of Health and Social Services of James Bay (CBHSSJB). As a Community Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting the well-being of our community members.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Intervene with individuals and groups experiencing social challenges, such as mental health issues, addiction, and integration problems.
  • Respond to referrals and use various techniques, including individual interviews and group facilitation, to effectively support clients and their families.
  • Coordinate logistics and facilitate Family Group Conferencing.
  • Remain neutral and impartial in your interactions with clients.
  • Assess service requests and refer clients to appropriate programs, services, or resources.
  • Collaborate with social workers and other employees within the Nishiiyuu department.
Requirements:
  • Diploma of college studies in social work techniques or social service techniques, or equivalent specialization from a recognized school.
  • Knowledge of Nishiiyuu programs, Cree culture, and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and colleagues, and establish a helping relationship.
  • Fluency in Cree and English; fluency in French is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing practices and paradigms.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
