Job Overview
The Engineering and Construction Services (ECS) Division is dedicated to developing safe and sustainable municipal infrastructure, enhancing the livability of our city. This division specializes in providing engineering design and construction services to various city departments, agencies, boards, commissions, and external clients, including the development sector and utility companies.

Within ECS, the Engineering Review Section plays a crucial role in ensuring that land development applications, transit initiatives, and third-party projects adhere to city standards, policies, and guidelines. This section is responsible for identifying service needs that can be met by existing infrastructure or determining the necessity for new or upgraded infrastructure. If you are recognized for your accountability, ownership, and proactive problem-solving skills, this is the ideal environment for you.

As a Lead Project Coordinator in the Development Engineering Unit, you will manage the review process for development applications under the Planning Act, including various amendments and proposals. This position also involves collaboration with cross-divisional teams on significant city-building initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

In your role, you will oversee multiple projects from inception to completion, reviewing and recommending approval for the scope and costs of new city infrastructure required for proposed developments. Your responsibilities will include coordinating feedback and securing necessary permits and approvals from various city divisions and external agencies. You will provide detailed technical reviews of engineering proposals, ensuring compliance with city policies and standards.

Leadership and Team Development

You will be expected to lead by example, providing coaching and technical guidance to team members. Your leadership will ensure that projects are managed effectively, maintaining high standards of quality and performance while promoting continuous learning within the team.

Technical Knowledge and Innovation

Your expertise in municipal engineering, particularly in stormwater management and infrastructure design, will be invaluable. You will represent the division in meetings with stakeholders, providing expert testimony when necessary and ensuring that all engineering practices align with current technological advancements.

Communication and Stakeholder Engagement

You will excel in conveying both technical and non-technical information to diverse audiences, establishing strong relationships with various stakeholders, including city officials, consultants, and the public. Your ability to navigate a complex, multi-stakeholder environment will be essential for the success of assigned projects.

Essential Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), preferably in Civil Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in development engineering, particularly in the design and delivery of municipal infrastructure.
  • Proven experience in preparing and reviewing engineering reports and drawings related to development or transit projects.
  • Strong background in managing multi-disciplinary projects involving significant municipal infrastructure.
  • Valid Province of Ontario Class 'G' Driver's Licence.

Additionally, familiarity with relevant legislation and proficiency in software applications such as MS Office and Adobe Acrobat is required. A commitment to fostering a culture of equity, diversity, and respect within the workplace is essential.

Commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
The organization is an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to creating an inclusive workplace that reflects the diverse community it serves.
