Your Opportunity:
Alberta Health Services (AHS) is committed to enhancing community health, enabling individuals to maintain their well-being and independence within their homes and neighborhoods. The Edmonton Zone Continuing Care division offers services across five primary program areas: Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services, and Palliative Care. We are currently seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Facility Living team, providing essential support and consultative services to facility operators and residents in a continuing care environment.
Role Overview:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will deliver a comprehensive range of nursing services to patients, families, and communities, ensuring their safety and well-being. Your responsibilities will include utilizing nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making. You will also educate, counsel, and advocate for patients and their families, playing a pivotal role in fostering an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough assessments of client needs and deliver appropriate therapeutic nursing services in accordance with professional practice standards.
- Coordinate resources, establish goals for client care delivery, and evaluate outcomes effectively.
- Manage cases for clients while providing direct care that adheres to established clinical standards, ensuring evidence-based and client-centered practices.
- Act as a consultant within the team, offering clinical expertise and guidance to fellow team members regarding their cases.
- Collaborate with clients and case managers to develop direct care plans that address unmet nursing needs, utilizing both internal and external resources.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered for this role, candidates must have completed an accredited nursing education program and hold an active or eligible registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Additionally, current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification is required. Candidates who have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five years must complete specific free courses.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Successful candidates will demonstrate excellent organizational and time management skills, alongside strong communication and assessment abilities to work effectively with healthcare team members, clients, and their families in a dynamic environment. Proven critical thinking and decision-making skills are essential, as is the physical capability to perform all assigned tasks.
Preferred Qualifications:
A baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred, although relevant skills and experience in community nursing practice will be considered. Experience in Palliative Care, familiarity with Meditech and Connect Care, and a minimum of two years of current nursing practice, including one year in a Continuing Care setting, are advantageous. Candidates should also have experience managing complex clients with acute, chronic, and end-of-life conditions, as well as expertise in cardiac care, IV therapy, and wound management.
