Your Opportunity:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role as a regulated member of the inter-professional healthcare team. Utilizing the nursing process along with critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, the LPN provides essential care to patients and their families throughout various stages of life. In the acute neuroscience/neurosurgery setting, the LPN is responsible for delivering nursing care aimed at promoting, maintaining, or restoring health while preventing illness, injury, and disability.

Working collaboratively with other nursing professionals, including Nurse Practitioners, Nurse Clinicians, Registered Nurses, and Health Care Aides, the LPN is integral to fostering a strong commitment to teamwork and excellent inter-professional communication. The LPN will engage in collaborative care with a diverse range of disciplines, including physicians, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Social Workers, as part of a comprehensive multidisciplinary team.

Unit 112 is characterized by a fast-paced environment that is both physically demanding and emotionally rewarding, given the complexity and acuity of the neuro patient population.

Description:

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will be an essential member of an interprofessional healthcare team, employing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Your practice will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level, and the policies and procedures of Alberta Health Services.

In this role, you will be pivotal in delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while embodying the shared vision and values of Alberta Health Services.

Required Qualifications:

- Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program.

- Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

- Registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA).

Preferred Qualifications:

- One to two years of experience in an acute post-operative/surgical environment.

- Previous experience in neuroscience nursing.

- Experience in orienting new staff or mentoring students.

- EKG/cardiac monitoring experience.

- Familiarity with Connect Care.
