POSITION SUMMARY

The Healthcare Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering both direct and indirect care to patients, ensuring the effective implementation of the Interprofessional care strategy. Responsibilities are guided and assigned by registered nursing professionals or relevant members of the multidisciplinary team.

The Healthcare Support Specialist within the Nursing Resource Team is expected to possess a diverse skill set pertaining to general medical-surgical care. This role requires strong critical thinking abilities and adaptability to dynamic situations. To meet the varied needs of the organization, the Specialist must be open to cross-training in specialized areas as necessary. This position involves working in various clinical environments across Michael Garron Hospital, including off-site locations as needed.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

A certificate or diploma in personal support work from an accredited institution is required.
- Completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support training is mandatory.
- Proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and understanding the English language is essential.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

- 1 to 2 years of recent, relevant experience in a similar role.
- Willingness to work across all Health Services within the organization, including off-site clinical environments.
- Familiarity with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and other pertinent regulations.
- Understanding of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System.
- Knowledge of hospital and departmental policies, procedures, protocols, and practices.
- Awareness of Emergency Codes.
- The role involves moderate physical demands, including lifting, extensive walking, standing, bending, and maneuvering equipment.
- Demonstrated understanding of infection control practices.
- A positive attitude and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team setting.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional growth.
- Ability to cultivate caring and trusting relationships with patients and their families to support patient-centered care.
