About the Role

The Hamilton Regional Indian Centre is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual to fill the position of UIHB Navigator. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in empowering Indigenous women and their families, promoting employment and education, and fostering community integration and social inclusion.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a culturally based and community-focused organization that is committed to driving positive change for the community. As a UIHB Navigator, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of stakeholders, including Indigenous and non-Indigenous community members, to provide support and guidance in accessing resources and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide case management services to Indigenous women and their families, including assistance with accessing education and employment opportunities, securing and maintaining safe and stable housing, and navigating systems to access supports and services.
  • Work closely with community members, Elders, and Traditional Knowledge Keepers to develop and implement culturally sensitive and effective support plans.
  • Collaborate with other community organizations and agencies to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to supporting Indigenous women and their families.
  • Provide education and awareness-raising activities to promote Indigenous culture and history, and to address the impacts of trauma and community outreach.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community members, organizations, and agencies to ensure a strong network of support and resources.
Requirements
  • Two (2) year post-secondary education in Social Service Work and/or Indigenous Studies or a combination of equivalent and relevant education.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in a community organization and/or experience working with Indigenous populations.
  • Case management experience and strong knowledge and awareness of Indigenous culture and history.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous and non-Indigenous community supports and services, including crisis intervention and first aid/CPR certification.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Valid driver's license with clear driving record and access to reliable transportation.
  • Clear Criminal Reference Check (CPIC) with a Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) required.
