Role Overview:
Our certified specialists are responsible for providing training that enables clients to enhance or regain essential daily living skills, fostering independence and improving safety and mobility.

We collaborate closely with ophthalmologists, optometrists, and other health care professionals, delivering crucial services on a referral basis in various settings, including homes and communities.

Employment Details:
Full-time, Contract (1 Year)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct Functional Low Vision Assessments using specialized evaluation tools to assess various visual functions, including visual acuity and contrast sensitivity.
  • Evaluate clients' work history, educational background, and psychosocial aspects related to vision impairment.
  • Research new optical aids and adaptive technologies in the field of eye care.
  • Participate in professional development training and conferences as required.
  • Deliver seminars and workshops on low vision services to community organizations and health care professionals.
  • Interpret medical information and perform administrative tasks, including data entry and documentation of assessments.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community rehabilitation teams, agencies, and health practitioners.
  • Promote awareness of vision health issues through public education and training sessions.
  • Assist in the training and supervision of volunteers and students.
  • Stay informed about advancements in electronic travel aids and orientation techniques.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to community groups and partners, advocating for awareness of vision loss.

Qualifications:
Applicants must meet the requirements of the VLRC National Vision Rehabilitation (Low Vision Specialist) Training Program and possess a degree in health care or vision-related fields. A high level of proficiency in relevant computer applications is essential. Proficiency in French is considered an asset.

Work Environment:
Services will be delivered in various settings, including office centers and community locations. Flexibility in working hours is required.
