Our Security Business

The security business of Johnson Controls designs, manufactures, and markets intrusion and access video security products for a global security market. With 2,000 employees located in R&D engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, and sales facilities in N. Ireland, UK, Italy, U.S., Canada, India, and China, the company has globally recognized brands and quality security products to protect people and property.

The Role of Software Quality Director

The Software Quality Director will provide leadership for the software quality assurance engineering team, quality team, and certification team. This position is based in Concord, ON, and will lead the quality test development and implementation of all software engineering plans. The Director will direct and manage software engineering resource allocation, schedules, and budget, and will be responsible for building an exciting innovation culture in the software engineering team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the software quality assurance engineering team, quality team, and certification team.
  • Develop and implement software engineering plans, including quality test development and implementation.
  • Direct and manage software engineering resource allocation, schedules, and budget.
  • Build an exciting innovation culture in the software engineering team.
  • Guide, mentor, train, and coach a team of software quality test developers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Hardware, Mechanical, Product Management, Marketing, and Manufacturing.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of software development experience.
  • At least 5 years of software team leadership experience.
  • Strong leadership skills and proven expertise in creating an innovation culture.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of the software development area.
  • Self-motivated and able to problem-solve through analysis of a situation with multiple variables.
  • Strong business acumen, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Strong proven leadership capabilities.
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma Methodologies or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of Intrusion Security System environments is an asset.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge in C/C++, Java, Perl, Linux, Android, JVM/JNI, Qt, TCP/IP.
  • Knowledge of embedded web/HTTP, XML, VOIP, security, and encryption technologies, Wi-Fi, ZigBee, Z-Wave, DECT, GSM(2G/3G/HSPA/LTE), CDMA.
  • Exposure to development environment and tools: GNU, VMWareTM, IAR, Eclipse, etc.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills. Basic knowledge of analog and digital hardware, microcontrollers, microprocessors, and DSP processors. Product knowledge relating to security systems.
