Key Responsibilities

  1. Contributes to the formulation of annual and long-term vegetation management strategies for review and endorsement by Operations management. Responsible for site-specific vegetation guidelines based on system risk, safety assessments, species diversity, growth metrics, site categorization, and identification of both target and non-target vegetation. Implements strategies to ensure adherence to various regulatory standards to avert potential penalties.
  2. Engages in intricate contract management tasks, including cost estimation, conducting pre-job meetings, and overseeing payment approvals based on field evaluations. Ensures effective utilization of contractor resources and assesses contractor performance for future reference.
  3. Supervises and inspects contractor teams to ensure compliance with specifications and industry best practices. Provides technical guidance to contractor teams involved in non-vegetation related tasks.
  4. Facilitates operational planning by preparing vegetation maintenance work packages for transmission and distribution systems. Defines the nature of work and methodologies required, ensuring completion as planned.
  5. Collects and compiles evidence from ground patrols for compliance reporting. Identifies vegetation risks and develops mitigation strategies to meet compliance requirements.
  6. Responds to vegetation encroachment risks in accordance with established procedures, assessing risks and coordinating necessary resources for vegetation removal.
  7. Conducts quality checks on vegetation patrol data collected by contractors and supports the preparation of quality assurance reports.
  8. Addresses customer inquiries and concerns related to vegetation management, liaising with various stakeholders and participating in community outreach initiatives.
  9. Provides technical support to management for resolving vegetation-related operational challenges.
  10. Performs additional minor duties related to the above responsibilities.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Forestry, Resource Management, Environmental Sciences, or Biology; or a Diploma in Forestry, Horticulture, or Environmental Studies.
  2. Registered or eligible for registration with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) or the International Society of Arboriculture as a Certified Arborist.
  3. A minimum of four years of experience in utility vegetation management or forestry.
  4. Completion of various in-house training related to contract administration and environmental issues is required.
  5. Possession of a valid class five (5) driver's license.
