Key Responsibilities

  1. Contributes to the formulation of annual and long-term vegetation management strategies for review and endorsement by Operations management. Responsible for site-specific vegetation plans based on system risk, safety assessments, species diversity, growth rates, site classification, and prioritization of maintenance activities to uphold Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) and vegetation clearances.
  2. Engages in complex contract management activities, including cost estimation, conducting pre-job meetings, and approving payments based on field evaluations. Ensures effective utilization of contractor resources and assesses contractor performance for future reference.
  3. Supervises and inspects contractor teams to ensure compliance with specifications and arboricultural standards. Provides technical guidance to contractors engaged in non-vegetation related tasks.
  4. Facilitates operational planning by preparing vegetation maintenance work packages for the transmission and distribution systems. Defines work types and methods required, ensuring completion as planned and obtaining necessary approvals.
  5. Collects and compiles evidence from ground patrols (e.g., measurements and photographs) for MRS compliance. Identifies vegetation risks and develops mitigation strategies.
  6. Supports vegetation encroachment risk management by assessing risks and coordinating responses, including reporting encroachments to stakeholders and collecting field data for compliance reporting.
  7. Conducts quality checks on vegetation patrol data collected by contractors and signs off on patrol records. May assist in preparing quality assurance reports to identify areas for improvement.
  8. Addresses customer inquiries and complaints regarding vegetation management activities. Engages with First Nations and other stakeholders on vegetation management matters and participates in community outreach initiatives.
  9. Provides technical advice to management regarding vegetation-related operational challenges. Coordinates vegetation process resources during significant weather events.
  10. Performs related duties of a minor nature that do not affect the job rating.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Forestry, Resource Management, Environmental Sciences, or Biology; or a Diploma in Forestry, Horticulture, or Environmental Studies from an accredited institution.
  2. Registered with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) or eligible for registration with the ABCFP within two months of hire; OR certified by the International Society of Arboriculture as a Certified Arborist and Certified Utility Specialist. A valid pesticide applicator's certificate may be required for some positions.
  3. A minimum of four years of experience in utility vegetation management or forestry vegetation management.
  4. Completion of various in-house courses related to contract administration and environmental issues is required within three months of starting the role.
  5. Must possess a valid class five driver's license.

This position is associated with the Movement of United Professionals union (MoveUP/COPE).
* This is a full-time permanent position based out of the North Shore, BC.
* This role is classified as safety-sensitive, requiring pre-employment alcohol and drug testing.
* Frequent fieldwork exposure is expected, with up to 80% of time spent in various environments.
* Responsibilities may include driving a 4X4 vehicle on back roads and using Off-Highway Vehicles (OHV) as necessary.
* Occasional overnight travel may be required.
