About the Role

VIA Rail is seeking a highly skilled Human Resources Business Partner to join our team. As an HRBP, you will play a key role in providing strategic HR guidance and support to our diverse population of unionized and non-unionized employees across Canada.

Key Responsibilities
  • Understand the context, issues, and challenges of your partners within VIA Rail's organization.
  • Strategically support the culture change and evolution of the sector.
  • Develop and orchestrate the implementation of human resources solutions to resolve problems.
  • Support managers in labor relations issues, establish positive relations with union players.
  • Interact with managers and positively influence them in their business decisions at various levels.
  • Deploy all activities of the human resources cycle in the business area.
  • Monitor the organizational climate and propose innovative solutions to enhance the level of engagement in the work environment.
  • Couch managers in their interaction with employees to foster a healthy work environment.
  • Collaborate with human resources centers of expertise to implement the team's strategic priorities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, industrial relations, or any other pertinent diploma.
  • Six to eight years of relevant experience, the majority in a unionized environment.
  • Must understand French and speak it.
Competencies
  • Ability to analyze business issues and recommend effective and adapted solutions.
  • Knowledge of employment/labor standards in Canada as well as Knowledge of Human Rights Legislation.
  • Highly ethical and able to deal with confidential issues with tact & discretion.
  • Good understanding of change management.
  • Being an enthusiastic team player with a strong drive to create a positive work environment.
  • Ability to influence management teams and union representatives.
  • High degree of organizational skills and autonomy.
  • Capable of effectively managing multiple demands from a variety of sources.
