Mott MacDonald is seeking a Senior Structural Project Leader to spearhead significant infrastructure initiatives across Canada, focusing on the management and guidance of tunneling personnel in the planning, design, and execution of major underground infrastructure endeavors.

This role involves:

  • Leading the structural engineering design for large-scale underground infrastructure projects, including overseeing and directing structural engineering teams.
  • Managing intricate scopes of work related to temporary works and underground structures, ensuring effective coordination among multi-disciplinary design teams.
  • Implementing rigorous quality control and assurance measures for engineering designs.
  • Acting as the structural engineer of record throughout all project phases.
  • Mentoring and developing team members within the structural engineering division.

In this position, you will engage directly with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders, ensuring that projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to the firm's quality standards. Additionally, you will assist in business development and marketing efforts.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A minimum of 15 years of design experience, primarily in underground structures such as stations, caverns, shafts, and tunnels.
  • A Master's degree or equivalent in structural engineering or earthquake engineering is preferred.
  • An engineering license or immediate eligibility for licensing in Ontario.

Furthermore, you should have:

  • Experience as the structural engineer of record for all phases of tunnel projects, including conceptual design, detailed design, and construction oversight.
  • A proven track record of collaboration with clients, contractors, transportation authorities, and various design disciplines.
  • Strong capabilities in the design and analysis of structural systems, including steel and reinforced concrete, adhering to Canadian design codes.
  • A solid understanding of geotechnical design and analysis related to underground structures, with experience in projects utilizing soil-structure interaction models.
  • Proficiency in interpreting complex 3D structural models and reviewing structural drawings for constructability.
  • Expertise in structural design and analysis software, such as SAP2000.
  • A commitment to delivering projects and structural design packages on time and within budget, ensuring client satisfaction.
  • The ability to assure the quality of deliverables for both yourself and your team.
  • Willingness to travel within Canada and internationally as needed to support projects.
