Position Overview

The Senior System Engineer will play a crucial role in our Lightspeed System Engineering team, which is responsible for defining the performance requirements of all RF components within the satellite communication system. This position involves simulating and modeling both terrestrial and in-orbit communication systems for the Lightspeed network.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Simulate and model communication systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Collaborate with system architects, RF engineers, and antenna engineers to delineate functions between hardware and software.
  • Develop strategies for modeling RF link performance, considering various impairments within the system.
  • Derive top-level specifications for RF links and subsystems.
  • Characterize and analyze system performance, maintaining performance budgets.
  • Provide technical support to regulatory and market access teams.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related field; a Master's degree or PhD is preferred, with a focus on RF/microwave circuits or communication theory.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in RF communication systems.
  • Proficient knowledge of digital communication systems, including spread spectrum and modulation techniques.
  • Experience with modulation standards such as DVB-S2X and DVB-RCS2, along with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) methods.
  • Strong skills in MATLAB or similar tools for modeling and analyzing RF communication systems.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Experience in analyzing and simulating communication systems.
  • Thorough understanding of RF components, both passive and active.
  • Familiarity with active antenna beamforming technologies.
  • Experience in characterizing radio performance at microwave frequencies.
  • Knowledge of RF transceiver architectures and digital communication theory.
