Job Title: Floater - Service Advisor

Halifax Public Libraries is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to fill the role of Floater - Service Advisor. This position requires a strong ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and customer service skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide exceptional customer service to library users, responding to their inquiries and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Work collaboratively with library staff to ensure seamless service delivery, including covering shifts and assisting with tasks as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of library services and programs, with the ability to promote and explain them to customers.
  • Assist with the maintenance of library collections, including processing and shelving materials, and resolving issues with damaged or missing items.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development to enhance skills and knowledge, with a focus on technology and customer service.
Requirements:
  • Completion of Grade Twelve (12) or equivalent, with three (3) years of related experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Basic math skills for cash handling, with the ability to accurately process transactions and maintain accurate records.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and library software.
  • Intermediate technology skills, including willingness to learn and experiment with new processes, tools, and technologies.
Assets:
  • Fluency in a second language, with the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
  • Previous work experience in a library or related field, with a strong understanding of library services and programs.
  • Experience with public speaking, performance, or hosting events, with the ability to engage and motivate audiences.
Travel:

This position requires frequent travel between library branches and community sites within the Halifax Regional Municipality, with access to reliable transportation necessary.
