Job Overview and Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate will be focused on producing high-quality, defensible analytical results in a safe and timely manner by adhering to established Standard Operating Procedures. You will conduct analyses and complex sample preparations with proficiency. Gain comprehensive knowledge regarding analytical methodologies and associated quality control practices.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Reviewing laboratory information management system (LIMS) summary reports to effectively plan and organize daily tasks
  • Adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Preparing samples and executing procedures prior to analysis
  • Conducting basic testing procedures
  • Ensuring high accuracy in sample preparation and analysis
  • Operating and maintaining necessary instruments and equipment for task completion (e.g., computers, equipment for determining oil properties such as density, viscosity, sulfur content, vapor pressure, etc.)
  • Meeting quality and turnaround time specifications required by clients, ensuring samples are analyzed within holding time requirements
  • Identifying and documenting known sample deviations, non-conformances, and/or process deviations, and reporting to the Supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Degree in a related field (e.g., BS, Petroleum/Chemical Technician)
  • Demonstrated success in a Laboratory Technician or Analyst role is advantageous
  • Solid understanding of sample handling procedures to maintain continuity and integrity of samples through compliance with laboratory protocols and quality assurance standards
  • Knowledge of and experience with laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices for handling hazardous materials with appropriate precautions
  • Excellent manual dexterity, record-keeping, calculation, and problem-solving skills
  • Flexibility to perform various duties to accommodate changing priorities
  • Strong time-management, communication, multitasking, and prioritization skills
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Positive attitude with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
