Job Summary

The Design Engineering Specialist is a key member of our product development team, responsible for engineering the development of new products and custom variations of existing designs. We are seeking an individual with a strong background in design engineering principles, who is analytical, creative, and able to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conceptualize electrical product solutions for a given need, both alone and as part of the design group.
  • Manage the construction of prototypes and validation of design criteria.
  • Interact regularly with Industrial Designers and Manufacturing Engineers from other divisions.
  • Ensure integration of requirements from relevant electrical safety standards.
  • Use SolidWorks to develop accurate 3D models of parts and assemblies.
  • Develop engineering drawings for purposes of prototyping and production.
  • Have some understanding of part design for tooling efficacy.
  • Plan and perform product testing to evaluate compliance with applicable safety standards (UL, CSA, etc.).
  • Submit final designs for third-party compliance verification to applicable safety standards.
  • Review test data and final construction reports from third-party testing agencies for accuracy.
  • Provide preliminary BOM and product cost estimates during development.
  • Cooperate with Manufacturing/Product Engineering teams to develop documentation, data, and other information required for effective launch of products into full production.
  • Contribute to the development of new processes and tools to simplify manufacturability.
  • Integrate Design for Environment and Sustainability into product designs.
  • Design for material and process optimization.
  • Design for reliability and technology integration/upgradability.
  • Manage all aspects of ECN process for product launches and part revisions.
Qualifications
  • Fluent in SolidWorks.
  • 5-10 years of relevant experience as a design engineer in product development.
  • Knowledge of design principles.
  • Experience with various tooling designs (extrusion, die-casting, injection molding, etc.).
  • Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of technical safety standards will be an asset.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards will be an asset.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
