Job Title: General Roadmaster

CPKC is seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Roadmaster to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient execution of our production capital plan.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of production capital projects to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Mentor and provide oversight to management staff to ensure compliance with corporate policy and regulatory standards.
  • Manage staffing requirements for production within the region, ensuring adequate resources are available to meet business needs.
  • Provide direction and support for industrial investigations, including conducting investigations as required.
  • Establish knowledge of labor agreements covering production crews and ensure regulatory compliance for production capital projects.
  • Monitor financial output/results expected within production projects and coordinate the annual review of planned capital work to support the planning process.
  • Participate in the development of safety plans, crew schedules, and consist design.
  • Establish/maintain cross-functional relationships within the geographic territory and ensure clear cross-functional working relationships between direct reports.
  • Arrange for and coordinate the hiring and crew staffing process as needed.
  • Act as a liaison between the Director and the team in their absence.
  • Coach direct reports to improve their effectiveness, invoke performance improvement plans, assess personal effectiveness, and provide development opportunities.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions.
  • 5 years of experience in the maintenance railway physical plant with a good understanding of track maintenance and track production.
  • 2 years of experience leading track production crews, such as rail and tie crews.
  • Complete understanding of railway track safety rules.
  • Knowledge and full comprehension of collective agreement language.
  • Demonstrated capability to apply relevant knowledge and technical skills to monitor adherence to CPKC policies and standards as well as regulatory requirements.

Medical Requirements:

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
